If you are a lover of fine spirit drinks, and you find yourself traveling through Greenville, South Carolina, you must, by all means, stop at the Dark Corner Distillery.
The second oldest distillery in the entire state of South Carolina opened its doors in 2011 and has awed drinkers ever since with a wide selection of refined spirits prepared after traditional recipes. If curiosity has not gotten into you yet, then these facts about the Dark Corner Distillery should make you ask for more!
How it all started
Somewhere at the end of the 2010s, Landrum native Joe Fenten got tired of working as an electrical engineer and decided to invest more time in one of his most-beloved passions: whiskey distillation. He decided to enter the spirits business even if he did not have any experience in the field.
After doing his due diligence, Joe opened the Dark Corner Distillery in 2011. He named the place in honor to the Glassy Mountain Township—the northeastern corner of Greenville County’s Appalachian hills, which have also been known as the Dark Corner. This particular area has a long tradition in spirits distillation that began in the early 18th century when colonialists from Scotland and Northern Ireland settled here.
Joe Fenten’s mission was to bring back some of the old recipes for whiskey and pay homage to the people who were drowning their sorrows or celebrating their triumphs in these parts centuries ago. To the satisfaction of our taste buds, Joe succeeded in his business and created award-winning spirits that brought popularity to his brand both locally and nationwide.
Top-quality whiskey for everybody
Nowadays, The Dark Corner Distillery enjoys a great deal of popularity not only for its successful brand but also for the versatility of its offering. One of their recipes is dedicated to female drinkers and it is righteously called Whiskey Girl. Talking about this brand, Joe admits his intention of rewarding women who like whiskey but who can never find one that suits their taste.
Another landmark brand from the Dark Corner distillery is the Tiger Fire, which is a smooth combination of moonshine spirit and natural orange extract. Joe dedicated this brand to his alma mater, the University of Clemson, which houses the Clemson Tigers football team.
For whiskey enthusiasts who like to have more fire in their bellies, the Dark Corner recommends Cock Lighting. This brand of spirit combines moonshine liquor with several flavors to deliver a serious punch and a delightful aftertaste.
